Recent higher education investments in Michigan have prompted us to revisit the reality of college affordability in the state, so that policymakers and stakeholders can monitor the impact of investments moving forward. While MI has lowered the net cost of a postsecondary education, a college credential still remains out of reach for many Michiganders, especially those from families with low incomes.
Our latest primer examines the state of college affordability in Michigan, exploring changes in cost by family income level as well as enrollment levels by race/ethnicity.
We offer recommendations the state can implement quickly to better direct and track the impact of higher education investments, reduce barriers for students seeking aid, and maximize existing resources for Michiganders working to complete a college credential.
