TICAS expresses support for California Assembly Bill 789 by Assemblymember Marc Berman, which will enable students who struggle academically due to personal hardships to continue their education by removing barriers to maintaining financial aid and benefitting from institutional support. AB 789 will ensure that Cal Grant-eligible institutions do not impose satisfactory academic progress (SAP) policies that are more restrictive than what is required federally and provide students who do not meet SAP with more flexibility as they apply to regain access to financial aid, which is a vital resource for vulnerable Californians to persist and succeed in college.
