On December 1, 2023, TICAS submitted comments to the Department of Health & Human Services regarding the notice of proposed rulemaking on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). We commend HHS for their efforts to ensure families with the greatest need benefit from TANF and urge the Department to take appropriate action to ensure the proposals do not worsen college affordability, to issue guidance that clarifies that states can use TANF to support postsecondary education for parents with low incomes, and to provide better guidance and technical support to states toward that goal.
