TICAS Letter of Support for California Bill Prohibiting Legacy and Donor Admissions Preference (AB 1780)

On June 14, 2024, TICAS submitted a letter to the California Senate Education Committee in support of Assembly Bill 1780 (Ting). This bill would prohibit private, nonprofit institutions from granting legacy or donor preferences in the admissions process through financial penalty mechanisms in the Cal Grant program, as well as requiring the Department of Justice to publicly post the names of the institutions that violate the prohibition on preferential admissions.
