40+ Stakeholders and Advocates Urge Senate to Prioritize Higher Ed in Reconciliation

A coalition of 40+ advocates for students, borrowers, consumers, civil rights, labor union members, researchers, and other critical stakeholders wrote to U.S. Senate leaders in opposition to the many damaging provisions in the House-passed reconciliation bill (H.R. 1) that would make college more expensive, student loan repayment more onerous, and the economic benefits of higher education farther out of reach for millions of students of color and low-income students. The attached letter elevates some of the most concerning provisions that would limit educational and economic opportunity for millions across the country.

We implore the Senate to choose a different path and reject this misguided attempt to divert needed resources from higher education to finance tax benefits for some of the wealthiest Americans.
