This year, TICAS prioritized six policy proposals uplifted by our community partners, five of which were addressed in the final FY26 budget or via administrative changes. These wins are in no small part due to our growing partnerships with the wide range of folks who do the tireless day-to-day work of preparing students for postsecondary life, encouraging them to pursue higher education, walking them through the financial aid process, and providing them with the resources that are necessary for their success.
These investments will break down barriers that have historically prevented thousands of low-income students from considering, pursuing, and completing higher education. This will in turn help to boost the proportion of Michiganders with a degree, the state’s movement towards its 60 by 30 attainment goal, and the overall economic sustainability and wellbeing of the state.
This fall, we will continue our work with partners to codify the Michigan Achievement Scholarship and monitor how changes in services impact student access to basic needs resources. We remain committed to helping the state further streamline the state aid process, centralize information on available aid, and improve communication and take-up of available resources. Together, we look forward to continued opportunities to develop creative, bipartisan solutions that address the ongoing barriers preventing Michiganders from thriving in our state.
